Horror Happenings: BATES MOTEL Season 3 Teaser, THE KEEPING ROOM Coming Soon and THE FLY Continues in Novelization

Greetings Horror Lovers and Happy Holidays! Just because we find ourselves in the midst of all things merry and bright doesn’t mean there isn’t room for scary and gross, so with that, let’s check out this week in Horror Happenings!

The Fly: Outbreak Book Picks Up The Story Where Cronenberg Left Off In March 2015

IDW Publishing announced last week that they will be continuing David Cronenberg’s film The Fly in book form with issue one being released in March 2015. According to the press release, Brandon Seifert (Hellraiser, Witch Doctor) wrote the first issue. The painted interior and cover art was created by menton3 (Silent Hill, Monocyte) and there will be variant covers created by Jason Edmiston and Lukas Ketner.

The synopsis explains: “Years ago, a scientist had a horrific accident when he tried to use his newly invented teleportation device and became a human/fly hybrid. Now his almost-human son continues to search for a cure for the mutated genes. But a breakthrough turns into a breakout, and anyone exposed risks turning into a monster as well…”

Looks like Brundlefly had a Brundlebaby after all! Despite David Cronenberg insisting that he has a concept for another Fly movie, I think continuing the story in print is an excellent way to go. Bleeding Cool reports that the new series will be five issues long. Are you looking forward to the spawn of Seth Brundle getting into more horrific shenanigans almost 30 years later?

The Keeping Room Finds Distribution

Alamo Drafthouse will be releasing The Keeping Room, a dark and genre bending Western in the fall of 2015. Based on Julia Hart’s Black List screenplay The Keeping Room is described as a meeting of “Cold Mountain and Straw Dogs,” and stars Brit Marling, Hailee Steinfeld, Sam Worthington and newcomer Muna Otaru. The film tells the story of “the violent resilience and dramatic camaraderie of three Southern women as their home is besieged during the purges at the close of the American Civil War. Forced to defend their land and fight for their lives, the women take up arms against their male oppressors, shattering gender and genre conventions in the process.” The Keeping Room premiered at Toronto International Film Festival and will hit theaters in the September 2015.

Bates Motel Teaser Pays Homage to Original Psycho In Season Three Tease

“Tease” being the appropriate word as Bates Motel, the Emmy nominated A&E drama based on Psycho, released a video short in anticipation for the third season of the series. Fans of the original 1960 classic directed by Alfred Hitchcock will remember the scene that inspired the teaser when Norman Bates, then played by Anthony Perkins, took a look through that infamous peep hole at Janet Leigh’s unsuspecting Marion Crane before she stepped into her shower.

Bates Motel starring Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga returns to A&E in March 2015.

What say you, horror fans? I’m actually excited for all three items in Horror Happenings this week but how about you? Tell us your thoughts on The Fly: Outbreak, The Keeping Room and Bates Motel season three in the comments below!
