Horror fans, listen up! One of the best reviewed genre films of the year, The Babadook, has gotten a new trailer and you are probably going to want to watch it. The Babadook has been making its way around the festival circuit for most of 2014. It screened at Sundance back in January as well as the Stanley Film Festival this spring and the Traverse City Film Festival in July. The movie stands at a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes with three major outlets — Variety, Film.com and Time Out New York — giving the indie horror film positive notices. The Babadook also marks the feature debut of writer/director Jennifer Kent and is based on her short film titled Monster.
Watch the terrifying new trailer below. The official synopsis is as follows:
Six years after the death of her husband, Amelia struggles to discipline her âout-of-controlâ six-year-old Samuel â a son she finds difficult to love. Samuelâs dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both. When a disturbing storybook called âThe Babadookâ turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature heâs been dreaming about. And when Amelia begins to see glimpses of the creature herself, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may well be real.
Are you excited? I’m excited. I also like that the movie is getting an odd release date, right around Thanksgiving, as opposed to adding it to the already super crowded month of October. The Babadook, written and directed by Jennifer Kent and starring Essie Davis and Daniel Henshall, gets a US release courtesy of IFC Midnight in US theaters and on VOD is November 28, 2014.
Holy shitballs.
