Honest Trailers Targets the 1990 CAPTAIN AMERICA Movie

This week, Marvel Studios is set to conquer the box office again with Captain America: Civil War. Chris Evans’ super soldier and the Marvel Cinematic Universe have gone a long way towards making Captain America into one of the most popular superheroes. But it hasn’t been that long since Cap faced Aquaman levels of shade for his infamous live-action movie from the 1990.

The Honest Trailers team has picked that earlier Captain America film as its target for this week’s installment, and it’s quite the rich buffet of low-hanging fruit to ridicule. The trailer even humorously notes how Marvel and DC’s positions were reversed a quarter century ago, as Batman was dominant in theaters and Captain America couldn’t even get a theatrical release!

There are so many reasons that this Captain America deserves mockery. Everyone always points out the bizarre rubber ears on Matt Salinger’s Captain America. But Honest Trailers goes even deeper to mock this Cap’s somewhat cowardly streak as he runs away from villains and steals cars from the poor people who were dumb enough to help him. Steve Rogers would not approve! It would take some kind of Dishonest Trailer to recommend this movie, or to even try to make it look good!

Captain America is the kind of movie that made Marvel a joke in Hollywood until Blade and the X-Men films proved that the publisher’s properties could hold their own. But it looks like this Captain America film would be great for a riffing party!
