Honest Trailers Sinks Its Teeth into THE JUNGLE BOOK

This Friday, April 15, director Jon Favreau‘s updated take on The Jungle Book is hitting theaters. It was screened earlier this week for critics, and we loved it! It’s a truly terrific film. To coincide with its release, the Honest Trailers team at Screen Junkies has taken aim at Disney’s original animated Jungle Book adaptation from 1967.

Under the harsh light of the Honest Trailers spotlight, Disney’s first Jungle Book wilts like a desert flower. It’s certainly not a bad movie, but I never realized how many animation shots were recycled in this film. Some of those shots were even reused in later Disney films. And Robin Hood‘s Little John was completely recycled from Baloo’s character model!

We have to agree with the HT team about The Jungle Book‘s plot…it doesn’t really have one. I don’t know if we would have used the words “as thin as an orphan’s loincloth,” but we can’t argue with the conclusion. Oh yes, and then there’s the “stranger danger” that finds Mowgli getting mishandled by strange animals throughout the film.

As an added bonus, The Jungle Book Honest Trailer also features a few remixed excerpts from the classic songs, with new and probably more accurate lyrics. Even “The Bare Necessities” isn’t spared, as Baloo tells Mowgli in song exactly what would happen if they had met in real life. “Don’t Trust Me” was also a very funny update of Kaa’s song.
