You’ll never get to visit the real Star Wars planet Hoth, which is probably for the best. Nor are you likely to visit Endor, though depending on how spoiled the nearest children to you are, it’s possible to be surrounded by teddy bears and incomprehensible screaming, just like a Stormtrooper defending the shield generator (you’ll be just as helpless, too).
But you can build an Imperial All-Terrain Scout Transport like the one that walked on the surface of both worlds, and feel like you were there. And if you don’t think you can, check out the handiwork of the guy who did.
Said guy, who wishes to remain anonymous, told The Verge that he “mostly pulled specs for the AT-ST from the internet, which is kind of amazing when you think about it. There’s a ladder in the back that leads up to the fully tricked out cockpit. Directly above the entry port are two solar panels that power the chin and side laser cannons. The cockpit is a treasure trove of circuit boards and random gadgetry, like a Mid-Tech Legacy 6000. With the eye-port shutters closed, red light bulbs are turned on to cast an eerie glow.”
Here’s a look at the interior cockpit, which seems as though it could fit one Chewie and two Ewoks.
It still needs an additional support post to hold up the head, because outside of light plastic toys, these things really can’t stand on their own two feet. It’s a wonder the Ewoks even needed to trip them, really, but as Doug Chiang told us, sometimes stuff in the Star Wars universe just floats, because it’s cool, and we don’t question it. The same can be said of this AT-ST’s nameless creator.
