Hideo Kojima’s New Studio Could Expand Into Movies and Animation

Earlier this week, Hideo Kojima’s tumultuous year at Konami came to an end, and he closed the door on his 30-year-long run with the company. However, Kojima has already begun to assemble a new studio, with a deal to produce a new video game for Playstation 4 and PC. And Kojima’s ambitions may not end there.

“The focus is on digital content, so we could consider movies, animations, anything,” said Kojima during an interview with IGN. “But first I think people expect games from me. That’s where I want to put my focus. Once we have an established IP in games, something solid that satisfies people, then we can consider movies and videos.”

Anyone who has played the Metal Gear Solid series can attest to Kojima’s love for cinematic storytelling. An eventual jump to movies or animation would be a natural progression for his career. But at the moment, Kojima appears to be focused on the early stages of his next video game project.

“I’ve been in this industry for 30 years,” added Kojima. “I turned 52 this year. I’m getting to a new start, and I am very confident. I’ll keep creating games until the day I die. Rest assured I’m making more games, something more fun, something you haven’t seen, and it would be great if I could count on the fans to support me in this.”
