Here’s When LEGION, ATLANTA, AMERICAN CRIME STORY and More Will Premiere

It’s a good time to be a TV fan. The landscape of television has been evolving at an unprecedented rate over the past decade, and where there once was a formal TV season from fall to spring, there is now a year-round slate of new and prestigious series for fans to enjoy no matter what month it is. But that also means that some series can have upwards of a year-long break in between seasons, making the wait for new episodes even more torturous. Thankfully FX has just announced the premiere dates for some of their most popular returning dramas and highly-anticipated new series, so your wait just got a little more tolerable. But only a tiny bit.

Announced during the 2018 Winter Television Critics Association press tour by FX boss John Landgraf, Nerdist rounded up all the new FX premiere dates below in one handy place:

Legion

While FX has not yet revealed when Noah Hawley’s mind-bending X-Men drama Legion will return for season two, it is expected to air sometime in April 2018. The premiere, “Chapter 9,” will pick up one year after David Haller (Dan Stephens) was abducted by a mysterious orb and Oliver (Jemaine Clement) was infected by the parasite The Shadow King aka Amahl Farouk. When season two begins, unlikely alliances are formed and the search for the Shadow King begins. Nerdist has seen the premiere already, and while our lips are tightly sealed, there is a scene in the chapter that will have you dancing in your seat and immediately rewinding at least three times.

Atlanta

Donald Glover’s critically-acclaimed series Atlanta will return for its second season, named Atlanta Robbin’ Season, on Thursday, March 1 at 10 p.m. as two cousins work through the Atlanta music scene in order to better their lives and the lives of their families: Earn Marks (Glover) is a young manager trying to get his cousin’s career off the ground, and Alfred Miles (Brian Tyree Henry) is a new hot rapper trying to understand the line between real life and street life. Atlanta Robbin’ Season also follows Darius (Lakeith Lee Stanfield) as Alfred’s right-hand man and visionary and Van (Zazie Beetz), who is Earn’s best friend and the mother of Earn’s daughter.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story

The second installment of American Crime Story, once again inspired by actual events, premieres Wednesday, January 17 at 10 p.m. The new season of the anthology series profiles spree-killer Andrew Cunanan (Glee‘s Darren Criss in a career-making role), whose cross-country path of destruction earned him a spot on FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List before his murder of international fashion icon Gianni Versace (Edgar Ramirez) on the steps of Versace’s South Beach residence in 1997. Based on the book Vulgar Favors by Maureen Orth, the series examines how cultural homophobia and prejudice delayed law enforcement’s search for Cunanan, as well as Versace’s relationship with his sister and muse Donatella (Penélope Cruz). The Assassination of Gianni Versace is a story of failed ambition and how the pursuit of an “American Dream” ended in murder and suicide.

The Americans

It’s time for the end of an era, as The Americans will premiere its sixth and final season on Wednesday, March 28 at 10 p.m. The period drama about the complex marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington D.C. during the Reagan administration has followed the arranged marriage of Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Keri Russell) for five seasons as it grows more passionate and genuine by the day. But as the pressures and demands of the job grow heavier, the personal toll has become almost too exhausting to bear. Having revealed their true identities to their teenage daughter Paige (Holly Taylor), Philip and Elizabeth’s ability to protect their cover and their family’s safety deteriorates. With Gorbachev in power in the Soviet Union, the winds of change are sweeping through both Russia and America, creating new perils. A growing rift within the KGB draws disillusioned former officer Oleg Burov (Costa Ronin) back into the fray, and may set Philip and Elizabeth on opposing sides as the Cold War reaches its boiling point.

Baskets

Zach Galifianakis’ dark comedy Baskets will return for season two Tuesday, January 23 at 10 p.m. When season two begins, the Baskets family of twins Chip and Dale (both played by Galifianakis), Christine (Louie Anderson) and Martha (Martha Kelly) is at its most fragile. Losing his wife and his rodeo job, Chip jumps on a train to get the hell out of Bakersfield, but a gang of gutter punks, the police, and a sudden death drag him right back into the drama he tried to escape. Dale’s marriage crumbles as his unrequited love affair with Martha deepens, and Christine, who dedicated her life to her sons with little affection in return, takes her own happiness into consideration for once — and finds romance on the way.

Mayans MC

The long road to the Sons of Anarchy spinoff is almost complete, as “Kurt Sutter’s long anticipated follow-up, according to Landgraf, will premiere “in late summer/early fall, right around the 10th anniversary of the series premiere of Sons of Anarchy.” Set in a post Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) world, Mayans MC will follow EZ Reyes (JD Pardo), fresh out of prison and a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali/Mexi border. EZ must carve out his new outlaw identity in a town where he once was the golden boy who had the American Dream within his grasp. The first season will be 10 episodes and also stars Edward James Olmos, Sarah Bolger, Clayton Cardenas, Richard Cabral, Michael Irby, Raoul Trujillo, Antonio Jaramillo and Carla Baratta.

Fargo

Fargo is “not done” just yet! According to Landgraf, Fargo creator Hawley “has an idea” for a fourth installment, and is loosely slated for a 2019 release. But that’s all the details the FX boss could reveal at this time.
