Here’s What’s Not to Miss at SDCC 2016 Day Two

It’s coming. San Diego Comic-Con will return in just under two weeks with the greatest convergence of comics, TV, movies, video games, cosplay, and everything else that we love! Comic-Con has released the programming schedule for Friday, July 22, and this is where things start to go a bit crazy.

Amazingly, there are no film presentations in Hall H on Friday. Instead, it’s featuring an all-star lineup of TV shows throughout the day.

Con Man is kicking off the day with a powerhouse lineup of guests that includes Alan Tudyk, Nathan Fillion, P. J. Haarsma, Felicia Day, Nolan North, and Mindy Sterling. Now, that’s worth getting up early for!

Next are back-to-back Fear The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead panels, featuring series creator Robert Kirkman, the creative team behind both shows, and several stars from each series including Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, and even Negan himself, Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

The annual Game of Thrones panel will include series stars Sophie Turner, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, John Bradley, Liam Cunningham, Nathalie Emmanuel, Conleth Hill, Faye Marsay, Hannah Murray, Iwan Rheon, and Kristian Nairn. “Hodor!”

Joss Whedon will take the stage and hopefully share some new intel about his next projects. The South Park panel will include a new preview for South Park: The Fractured But Whole. Closing out the day in Hall H is Preacher, which will feature moderator Kevin Smith alongside series stars Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga, Joseph Gilgun, Ian Colletti and Graham McTavish as they perform a live-reading from the next episode. But if that’s enough reason to show up, producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will also be on the panel alongside Garth Ennis, the writer and co-creator of the Preacher comic!

Now, if you don’t want to sit in Hall H all day, there are plenty of other panels to go to. There really aren’t many major movie panels on Friday, although we are quite excited about the Beauty and the Beast 25th anniversary panel at 4:30pm in Room 5AB with producer Don Hahn, directors Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise, and “an all-star panel of filmmakers” as they look back on one of the all-time great animated movies.

On the video game front, Ed Boon and NetherRealm Studios are putting on an Injustice 2 preview panel at 12:30pm in Room 6DE which will debut new footage from the game and feature a few of the voice actors, including George Newbern (Superman), Phil LaMarr (Aquaman), and Laura Bailey (Supergirl). Don’t be too shocked if some new characters are also announced for the game at this panel.

At 3:15pm, you’re gonna have to choose between the Samurai Jack panel at the Indigo Ballroom or the American Gods panel in Room 6BCF. That’s a tough call, as both properties have strong fan-followings. The Samurai Jack panel will have series creator Genndy Tartakovsky and other members of the creative team as they unveil a preview of Jack’s new adventures. But American Gods has the star power of Ian McShane, Ricky Whittle, and Pablo Schreiber, as well as executive producer Bryan Fuller and moderator Yvette Nicole Brown.

In comics, the hot panel for the day is probably going to be DC’s Young Animal, which will be held at 5:30pm in Room 5AB, with Gerard Way on hand to introduce his new line of comics alongside his creative collaborators Cecil Castellucci, Jon Rivera, and a few unannounced guests.

However, the most anticipated panel on Friday is likely to be the world premiere screening of Batman: The Killing Joke in Ballroom 20 at 9pm. The confirmed panelists are executive producer and co-director Bruce Timm, co-director Sam Liu, writer Brian Azzarello, and cast members Tara Strong and Ray Wise. Mark Hamill is probably not going to be there, but we’re holding out hope for Kevin Conroy! Show up really early for this one, as the line to get in is likely to be quite long.
