ELECTRA WOMAN AND DYNA GIRL Are Reborn as Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart in a New Web Series!

UPDATE: Check out the first image of Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart as Electra Woman and Dyna Girl!

As we all wait patiently for the premiere of CBS’ Supergirl, it’s easy to forget that there was once a time when TV was gifted with a veritable squadron of superheroines. In the 1970s, we enjoyed not only prime-time network series like Wonder Woman and The Bionic Woman, but Saturday morning TV superstars like Isis and the first female crime-fighting duo to hit the screen — Electra Woman and Dyna Girl. As part of children’s television mavens Sid and Marty Krofft’s Krofft Supershow, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl ran a scant sixteen twelve-minute episodes over the course of just one year (September 1976 to September 1977), but those of us who thrilled to the pair’s adventures have never forgotten their outlandish villains, outrageous costumes, campy dialogue, and funky earworm of a theme song (which boasts the best lyrics of any Kroft show ever). But back to the now… The gods of pulp culture are smiling on us today, since we’ve just learned that Electra Woman and Dyna Girl is about to be reborn via Legendary Digital Media and Fullscreen, which are teaming up with YouTube stars Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart (who previously partnered on the digital feature film Camp Takota) to bring this cult classic to a new generation.

Here’s the official announcement from Helbig and Hart themselves, who are currently shooting the series in Canada…

The show will be directed by Chris Marrs Piliero (of Ariana Grande, Ke$ha and the Black Keys music video fame), and produced by Helbig and Hart and their managers Ken Treusch and Sarah Weichel, along with Contradiction Films’ Tim Carter and Tomas Harlan (Dead Rising: Watchtower, Mortal Kombat: Legacy). For more on the project, check out www.ElectraWomanDynaGirl.com.

And because I just can’t resist, here’s the immortal opening of the original Electra Woman and Dyna Girl. Enjoy — and let us know below what you think about the new show’s announcement!

Editor’s note: Nerdist Industries is a subsidiary of LegendaryDigital Networks.

Meh…I was a stuck- up teenager and too old for Saturday morning fare by 1976. (I remember Judy Strangis from “Room 222,” though). Tell the Kroffts to bring back The Bugaloos!

And now my childhood is officially ruined.

    • Farseeker says:

Why? Did you go back in time and gouge out your younger self’s eyes?

    • David says:

Funny:  I was going to say the exact opposite! This is wonderful that these two are helping recreate such a cool part of my childhood!

  10. ChickenFries says:

I’m for Grace Helbig in spandex. Hannah Hart on the other hand…. I’m for Grace Helbig in spandex.

Can this be the first step in creating … the Krofft-verse? Who’s most likely to be the 21st century’s Magic Mongo? Will he team up with Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, hop into Wonderbug and defeat Dr. Shrinker? (He’s a madman with an evil mind!) And what current group will transform into Kaptain Kool and the Kongs? The world waits impatiently for the answers!
