Her Universe Takes Comic-Con by Storm & A Totoro-ally Awesome Announcement

The stars were out on Thursday night at San Diego Comic-Con and strutting their stuff for the Her Universe Fashion Show at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel. The geeky couture exhibition was a first of its kind, and we hope to see more epic fashion inspired by our favorite nerdy things.

Alongside the gorgeous fashion, Her Universe founder Ashley Eckstein made the exciting announcement that she will be partnering with Ghibli Studios for a new line of apparel. Featuring designs from My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki’s Delivery service first, and available for both men and women, the line will hit stores in time for the holidays. She made this epic announcement while decked out in a haute couture Totoro dress from Catherine Elhoffer of Elhoffer Design.

Her Universe partnered with Hot Topic, and Nerdist Industries (us!) for this exciting event, and worked with Espionage Cosmetics as the show’s official hair and make-up partner. The show was judged by Just Cos’s own Chloe Dykstra; Justine Ezarik a/k/a iJustine; world-renowned designer and author Tarina Tarantino; Hot Topic Senior VP of Merchandising and Marketing, Cindy Levitt, as well as comedy sister duo Hilly and Hannah Hindi of The Hillywood Show. Also included on the judging panel are Lucasfilm executive Tara Sinclair, Senior Manager Softlines, and Lacey Prince Product Development head for Softlines, fashion and accessories – together they deliver the best creative to the Star Wars brand and their audiences.

The panel of celebrity judges chose Amy Beth Christenson’s design “Great Skirt, Marty” based on Back to the Future as their favorite from the 36 designs presented last night.
