We’re big fans of The Jim Henson Company’s Dinosaur Train around these parts – and not just because we can sing the Dinosaurs A-Z… but… okay, admittedly that’s a HUGE part of why we love it so much. And now, The Jim Henson Company has paired up with DHX Media (Yo Gabba Gabba) for a new animated preschool series called Doozers.
In the same way that Dr. Scott The Paleontologist encourages kids to “get outside and get into nature,” Doozers is set to inspire kids to get outside and MAKE something. The four Doozer kids – Spike, Molly Bolt, Flex and Daisy Wheel – live in Doozer Creek, where they design, create things, solve problems, and get stuff done in an innovative way. The three poppets are inspired by the classic Henson series Fraggle Rock, and are also kind of reminiscent of the sackboy/girls in Little Big Planet.
It’s never too soon to instill an “I can do it” attitude in a child and help them think outside the box. And it’s never to soon to introduce the idea of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) to those little sponges either!
Doozers premieres on Hulu and Hulu Plus on April 25th.
This is amazing and wonderful.
Getting kids to make things and solve problems is super-important.
I hope there’s an occasional fraggle here and there.
Fraggles could teach a valuable lesson about learning from failure and never giving up (since, traditionally, the fraggles eat everything the doozers make…).
I suppose Doozer Creek is probably not the subterranean doozer society we’re familiar with from under fraggle rock. Maybe that’s for the best, since kids these days don’t have nearly the access to radishes that those doozers normally would have.
As a preschool teacher, I’m super jazzed about this. Tots start to model behavior long before traditional teaching starts. Getting them curious early is fantastic!! Can’t wait.
