A whole convention for one game company? Sounds a bit extreme, unless it’s Blizzard Entertainment, because they never seem to have a shortage of awesome new things to share.
At this year’s BlizzCon, we got an awesome trailer for the new expansion to Hearthstone, the company’s online collectible card game. Entitled League of Explorers, it does what Blizzard has always been great at: shaking things up with new characters and blending styles. The trailer makes it clear that, while there are still all manner of fantasy-based things native to Azeroth, this has a distinct early 20th century air of archaeology, like in Indiana Jones or The Mummy.
In League of Explorers, players will explore Azerothâs archaeological sites alongside treasure hunter and dwarvish historian Brann Bronzebeard. He’s cool enough, but the expedition will also feature night elf scholar Elise Starseeker, murloc adventurer Sir Finley Mrrgglton, and the dashing rogue Reno Jackson, who may as well be Dr. Jones himself (but with a Tom Sellick moustache). There will be three parts — or wings — to the adventure: Temple of Orsis, Uldaman, and Stranglethorn Jungle, while a fourth wing will take place inside Hall of Explorers in the Ironforge.
According to Blizzard, the 4 wings will be “packed with fiendish bosses, puzzling traps, and ancient mysteries for you to discover. When you overcome a boss or an encounter for the first time, you will earn brand-new cards for your collection!” There will be 45 new cards in total to play with and the first wing will be released on November 12, which is next week. Below, you can find a gallery of some lovely art from the game.
