While Scarlett Johansson is preparing to assume the role of Motoko Kusanagi in the upcoming Ghost in The Shell film, PC video game publisher Nexon is aiming to bring the series over to the first-person shooter genre. Yesterday they released a gameplay trailer (viewable above) for First Assault, an online tactical shooter based on Ghost in The Shell: Stand Alone Complex.
Nexon summed up what player’s experience in the game will be like in the following blurb:
As an elite, augmented soldier, players will advance and master their character with upgrades and unlocks as they succeed in combat. Each character has exclusive attributes that reflect features of the original franchise, such as Motoko Kusanagiâs âTherm-optic Camouflageâ cloaking technology or Saitoâs ability to enhance his vision and highlight enemy soldiers.
Players will be able to select among eight different characters, each of which will come equipped with their unique abilities from the show. You’ll also be able to customize them with weapon attachments, specialized body augmentations, and enhanced abilities. I’m excited to get my hands on some tactical online gameplay that’s set in a cyberpunk universe, though I am slightly apprehensive to fully accept the online shooter space as the right genre for the Ghost in The Shell series.
Closed beta sign-ups for First Assault will go live on October 1, so register here for your chance at being a part of the festivities, and check out a gallery of screenshots below.
