Cosplaying is expensive! Have you ever looked into what it costs to commission someone to make you something that has a chance of winning a costume contest? For those of us without sewing and fabricating skills, it’s a hobby that is often out of our financial league. (Why, oh why didn’t I pay more attention to sewing in home economics instead of having food fights?) Well, there is actually some good news on this front if you’re a Marvel fan. They’ve teamed with Hasbro to bring some more affordable cosplay your way.
The new pieces from the Marvel Legends collection, which include an Iron Man helmet and a Captain America shield, won’t be out until next fall, but it’s still pretty cool to know we’re going to have them soon (Strangely not in time for Captain America: Civil War.) The helmet, which takes three AAA batteries and has a removable face plate, will cost you $100. (I weirdly saw one of these from the film in the late Stan Winston’s shop years ago with a rubber Robert Downey Jr. mask under the face plate and it scared the crap out of me.)
The Captain America shield, which also costs $100, is the same size as the movie prop. Yeah, $100 is still a little steep for some of us, but the detail is really cool. It will be interesting to see if they do any of the movie weapons this way. If so, the weapons check line at upcoming cons will be a bit of a nightmare. Still, I’d like to crossplay the Winter Soldier. Make me an arm?
We want to hear from you guys. Tweet me/us @JennaBusch/@Nerdist and tell us which Marvel cosplay items you’d like to see. I’m surprised they don’t have a high end costume line. Make that Black Widow outfit and I guarantee you it will sell out in a single day.
