In just under a month, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Captain America: Civil War before headlining his own reboot film next year. While the next Spider-Man movie is currently casting, several details remain unknown. However, Sony may have tipped its hand regarding the title of Spideyâs new adventure.
In a report that originated with BBC, Sony Pictures has apparently registered the url for SpiderManHomecomingTheMovie.com. Does that mean that Spider-Man: Homecoming will be the name of the movie? Quite possibly. But thereâs also a chance that itâs simply one of the names that Sony is considering, as opposed to the only potential name. Nerdist has reached out for comment but had yet to hear back at the time of publication.
As it happens, there is a Spider-Man comic book storyline called “Homecoming,” in which Peter Parker returned from the first Secret Wars with the alien costume that went on to become Venom. However, a direct adaptation of that story for this movie doesnât seem very likely in light of recent reports about a new standalone Venom film.
BBC’s report also suggests that either Chris Evans or Robert Downey, Jr. could potentially cameo in the new Spider-Man film as Captain America and Iron Man, respectively. Thatâs far from a confirmation, but it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility. Part of the deal between Marvel Studios and Sony to bring Spidey into the MCU was the ability to bring in other Marvel characters for the Spider-Man movies as well. Even if Cap and Iron Man arenât in the new Spider-Man film, thereâs a good chance that other MCU characters will appear in some capacity.
In fact, we even did a Nerdist News about it. Check it out:
Sony’s new Spider-Man movie will swing into theaters on July 7, 2017.
