Hannibal Buress’s Shark Week Promos Are Spectacularly Low Budget

Glob bless Hannibal Buress. His upcoming series, Why? With Hannibal Buress, debuts Wednesday, July 8th, at 10:30. Tapping into the annual cultural Discovery Channel touchstone that is Shark Week, Mr. Buress decided to piggyback onto the shark theme for promos for the new show, and then discuss his rationale with Conan. “You gotta get the shark audience. They’re very… passionate,” Hannibal explains to Conan. As for the low-key approach to the costume and graphics, Hannibal kids Conan that the choice of costume was very deliberate. “I don’t want a fancy shark costume, because I want people to be able to relate to me,” Buress jokes, adding “they’ll be like, ‘Oh I can’t relate to Hannibal, look how fancy his shark costume is.'”

Tapping into the “Shark Market” worked well for Sharknado, after all. That incredible piece of cinema action comedy is almost ready for its third installment, due out this month. You get yours, Hannibal. The whole “shark of the people” thing is very IN right now.

Why? is the latest in Comedy Central‘s summer lineup of shows, including the brand new Another Period from Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome, the second season of The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, and it will debut following the fifth season premiere of Key & Peele. Why? is slated to be a mixture of sketch comedy couched with standup exposition, man-on-the-street interviews, and guest appearances.
