This HAIL, CAESAR! Pop Art Is Golden Age Gorgeous

Every time a new Coen Brothers movie comes out, people in the cinema world take notice. And why shouldn’t they?! There are only a handful of filmmakers who have as golden a track record as Joel and Ethan Coen. Hell, their last movie, 2013’s Inside Llewyn Davis, was one of their best yet! But thing they do best is the raucous screwball comedy. Their new movie Hail, Caesar! will be just that, paying homage to the classic genre of the Golden Age of Hollywood.

To celebrate, Hero Complex Gallery is debuting an exclusive series of art paintings inspired by the movie, created by different respected artists in the pop art field. One of these artists, Glen Brogan, developed this distinctive and very ’40s-ish poster. Brogan managed to nail the essence of each of the film’s stars, and that’s a real achievement.

The film, as you may know, revolves around studio tough Eddie Mannix (played by Josh Brolin), who cleans up after troublesome movie stars. Brolin has to bring together a ragtag group of players to help retrieve a huge box office draw Baird Whitlock (played by George Clooney) after he’s drugged and held for ransom. Brogan’s art showcases main players Brolin, Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Jonah Hill, and Channing Tatum in a fashion that’s both stylized and heightened as well as totally true and recognizable. Look at Clooney, for Pete’s sake! He looks perfect.

The portrait is entitled “Et tu, Baird?” and is available to buy as a 24×16 print for $40. To see the full gallery of artwork inspired by the movie, hit up Hero Complex.

Hail, Caesar! opens Friday Feb 5 everywhere.
