Guillermo del Toro and PACIFIC RIM Writer Set A KILLING ON CARNIVAL ROW at Amazon

Though we’re waiting patiently for Crimson Peak and Pacific Rim 2, Guillermo del Toro has a lot going on in the TV world as well. After The Strain managed to become one of FX’s biggest hits of 2015, many have been wondering what’s next for the Hellboy director’s small screen venture. After much speculation, it appears we now have our answer. According toThe Hollywood Reporter, the del Toro has teamed up with his Pacific Rim writer, Travis Beacham, and Legendary to produce a new series for Amazon titled A Killing on Carnival Row.

Originally written by Beacham as a feature film in 2005, the project has sat in development with Del Toro attached since its inception. Set in a “noir, Victorian-tinged city where humans, fairies and other creatures co-exist,” the original script followed “a detective investigating a serial killer who is preying on mystical creatures, only to find that he has become the prime suspect in the murders.” In the new format, del Toro will direct the pilot, which will be co-written by him, Beacham and Rene Echevarria – the latter of which will serve as showrunner should the program receive a series order from Amazon.

Since Amazon opted to rescind its series order of Chris Carter’s The After, the SVOD outlet is in need of a new fantasy series to fill its genre hole (something it’s wanted to do since initially optioning Zombieland when the studio was first launched). There are few better options they could have gone with than del Toro to do that, so we have nothing but high hopes for this one.
