GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Ride to Take Over Disneyland’s Tower Of Terror

Update: On Tuesday, August 30, the Disney Parks Blog confirmed that Disneyland‘s Tower of Terror ride will close on Monday, January 2, 2017. If you’re heading to the Anaheim, CA theme park before the new year, Disneyland will be throwing several events to say farewell. From September 9 through October 31, the hotel’s “guests” will get their very own “Late Check-Out,” where they can ride the rollercoaster in total darkness. They’ll also have special commemorative merchandise and daytime performances by the Silver Lake Sisters, Disney’s version of the Andrews Sisters.

Guardians of the Galaxy Ð Mission: BREAKOUT! -- Debuting in summer 2017, Guardians of the Galaxy Ð Mission: BREAKOUT! will take Disney California Adventure park guests through the fortress-like museum of the mysterious Collector, who is keeping his newest acquisitions, the Guardians of the Galaxy, as prisoners. Guests will board a gantry lift which launches them into a daring adventure as they join Rocket Raccoon in an attempt to set free his fellow Guardians. The new attraction will transform the structure currently housing The Twilight Zone Tower of Terrorª into an epic new adventure, enhancing the breathtaking free fall sensation with new visual and audio effects to create a variety of ride experiences. Guests will experience multiple, random and unique ride profiles in which the rise and fall of the gantry lift rocks to the beat of music inspired by the filmÕs popular soundtrack. True believers, your time has come to experience Marvel movies come to life at Disney Parks. According to WDW News Today, Disney is looking to opt out of their Twilight Zone licensing use and there’s a real possibility of a Guardians of the Galaxy-themed overlay of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

To those who balk at the idea, would it really be that far fetched? I mean the way Star-Lord handles the Milano, I can imagine a whole lot of crazy space traffic and complete terror with villains always on the team’s tail.

The change most likely won’t occur at the other ride locations in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, Tokyo DisneySea or Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris. Disney California Adventure is the perfect place for a smooth Marvel transition into the park, with the Hollywood Land providing the opportunity for a superhero overlay.

A working Marvel studio-land would be an easy bet based on square footage and introducing shopping, rides and dining similar to the upcoming Star Wars Land would make both parks complete as far as Disney acquisitions. There’s also talk of a Captain America themed launch coaster that would round out the land nicely.

Marvel has already made itself comfortable in Hollywood Land with added meet and greets for Spider-man and Cap to coincide with the release of Civil War. The area near the Hyperion has been themed out as the 15th Precinct Police Station complete with a newspaper stand featuring the Daily Bugle.

We’ll be able to see how Marvel actually integrates into Disney parks come June 16 when the Shanghai resort opens it’s much anticipated Marvel Universe experience.
