Grimes Shares a New Track from the SUICIDE SQUAD Soundtrack

Just looking back at the last couple of music videos that Grimes directed and choreographed, it almost feels like they were an extended audition for a role in Suicide Squad. Just look at these outfits! We could easily see her as Harley Quinn or Enchantress given her protean wardrobe predilections and seemingly erratic artistic persona. And since she is a HUGE nerd that is extremely stoked to see Suicide Squad for herself, she said was especially honored to be part of the movie’s solid soundtrack (could this be a case of the soundtrack > the movie? Maybe.)

“This movie in particular is a movie I am really looking forward to,” Boucher told Zane Lowe during his Apple Music show. “I was openly weeping [when I was asked to contribute]; I was really stoked.”

Listen to her new song, “Medieval Warfare” below.

The song itself has a lot in common with the higher production value of her track “Go”, which was a divisive single initially written for Rihanna but one Claire Boucher released under the Grimes moniker. It is a metallic sounding electronic track that shape shifts its instrumental hooks until the final moments of the record. All the while, Grimes, with the softer side of her vocals, beckons you in until she abrades you with confrontational questions during the chorus: “Are you big? Are you ugly?” It’s a galvanized surge of a song, and I hope this gets released as a special LP (cough, Mondo).
