GREEN LANTERN Rumor: Tyrese Gibson is John Stewart, & Chris Pine is Hal Jordan

There’s been a lot of news surrounding the last major member of the upcoming Justice League film not yet cast, Green Lantern. Or should I say Green LanternS, plural? Collider broke the story earlier this week that the rumors they’ve been hearing are in regards to the new DC Cinematic Universe having more than one Green Lantern headlining it, and that the recent news about Star Trek’s Chris Pine getting the part of Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman is just a smokescreen, that the part he’s really up for is Hal Jordan, set to debut in the Justice League movie in 2017. This would then be followed by what now looks like a Green Lantern Corps team up movie, with John Stewart as co-lead. Both Lanterns would probably debut in the Justice League film first in 2017, if rumors are to be believed.

This makes perfect sense, of course — the Green Lanterns are outer space beat cops, and as cops they have partners to patrol their sector with. Having two Lanterns solves the problem of which Lantern to pick, the classic Silver Age Hal, or John Stewart, who millions know as the League’s resident GL thanks to the Justice League Unlimited animated series. After all, who says there can’t be two Green Lanterns in the JLA?

Now adding fuel to this fire is Fast and the Furious actor Tyrese Gibson, who posted some rather telling images on his Instagram account this week, once the rumors hit. The images are fan-made Photoshop mock-ups of Pine as Hal Jordan and Gibson himself as John Stewart, with the words “the oath has been taken.” That leaves little to the imagination, and interviews that Gibson did with E! later in the week were even more suggestive, where he seemed to do everything but confirm that he’s the newest GL along with Pine, saying “I took the oath. I had a meeting at Warner Bros. and certain things were said and talked about.”

#TheOath has been taken…..

When pressed even further for news about a possible Comic-Con confirmation, he added “You never know. I might be there on the other side of an announcement.” So either Tyrese is trying real hard to make those rumors true by just spreading them himself and hoping it comes true once fans online show their overwhelming support, or he just can’t keep a secret. We’ll know one way or the other at Comic-Con in San Diego in a few weeks.

What do you think? Are you cool with more than one Green Lantern patrolling Space Sector 2814, and if so, is Tyrese the perfect John Stewart or not? Let us know in the comments below!
