GODZILLA VS. KING KONG Movie Emerges at Warner Bros.

In 1962, Toho Studios produced King Kong vs. Godzilla, and Japan’s greatest monster was seemingly defeated by the giant ape from Skull Island. Fifty three years later, it’s high time for a rematch!

Legendary Pictures has reportedly moved its upcoming King Kong prequel, Kong: Skull Island from Universal to Warner Bros. in advance of a new movie that would pit Godzilla vs. King Kong. It would also give Godzilla top billing for the cinematic rematch. Bringing the two franchises together under the same studio was supposedly done to make the crossover movie easier to accomplish.

The Godzilla vs. King Kong movie is said to be coming together very quickly, with Toho Studios (the Japanese company that owns Godzilla) also involved with the project in some capacity. However, the earliest that Godzilla vs. King Kong would be released is either in 2019 or 2020.

First up in the new Giant Monsters Cinematic Universe is Kong: Skull Island, which has already lined up Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston and Corey Hawkins for leading roles with Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Wilkinson, and John C. Reilly also rumored to be up for parts in the movie. Kong: Skull Island was written by John Gatins and Max Borenstein, and it will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts when it begins production either later this year or in early 2016. The release date is March 10, 2017.

Although Godzilla 2 is being eyed for a 2018 release, director Gareth Edwards won’t be available to start on it until after Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is finished some time next year.
