Weâre just one month out from the Gilmore Girls revival and Iâve already been readying myself by consuming as much coffee as my body can handle. It seems everyone is looking forward to this Netflix binge and now you can make all your Gilmore come true by visiting an actual Lukeâs Diner come to life.
Eater lets us in on the greatest pop-up restaurant idea this side of Stars Hollow, and this week 250 coffee shops in across the United States and Canada will be changed into the iconic Luke’s Diner for one day only to promote the upcoming show and the best part? The coffee is free!
On October 5, Netflix will be sponsoring a conversion of various cafes, providing t-shirts, aprons and you can bet there will be coffee in whatever form theyâve got. Will there be a “no cell-phone” sign like the one that hangs behind the counter? Hard to keep to that rule in this day and age but if thereâs anyone to enforce it, it’s definitely Luke.
The date of the pop-up event also happens to be the 16th anniversary of the original pilot airing. It will only run at the respective cafes from 7am to noon so you have to be quick about it if you want your coffee on. Netflix also promises fans a “fun surprise under their custom Gilmore Girls coffee sleeve.” What could it be? Iâm hoping itâs a new car built by Dean.
There will be at least one Lukeâs Diner per state so check out townofstarshollow.org to see where the nearest place is for your caffeine fix. Now’s your chance to put on your best flannel and backwards cap for the ultimate Luke Danes cosplay.
Is this just the beginning? What’s next, will there be Mrs. Kim’s Kim’s Antiques stores popping up all over the country? One can dream. Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life will debut on Netflix on November 25. Until then Iâll be standing by with a coffee IV.
Will you be visiting a Lukeâs Diner near you on October 5? Let us know in the comments and tag @nerdist and @justjennrecipes on instagram so we can see you drinking your fill of coffee!
