GHOSTBUSTERS Update! Aykroyd’s Latest Pitch & Cecily Strong Joins Reboot

We know, we know. Though we are excited to see what Paul Feig can do with his upcoming all-lady Ghostbusters reboot, some fans of the original films are less than jazzed with the prospect. Lucky for you, we’ve got something for everyone today: another Ghostbusters 3 rumor from Dan Aykroyd AND a look at who will be joining Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, and Leslie Simon in the reboot.

First, Jessica Chobot is breaking down the idea of the 2016 reboot launching a shared Ghostbusters universe. After Akroyd’s recent comments about that elusive Ghostbusters sequel, we have to wonder how that would work. I mean, think about it: could the lady-busters come across a supernatural evil so ghastly they have to jump through time and space to enlist the help of the OG-busters? Sign. Us. UP.

And in slightly more tangible news, another SNL alum has joined the reboot cast: none other than Cecily Strong! Find out more about what role she’ll be tackling in today’s spectre-cular episode of Nerdist News.

What do you think about a Ghostbusters shared universe? Do you (kindly) wish Dan Aykroyd would stop getting our hopes up, or are you on board for a Ghostbusters 3? Let us know in the comments below!

  1. Spencer says:

    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Ghostbusters.

  2. Al says:

Ramis is gone, Reitman doesn’t want to do it. If the original cast is not all on board, you shouldn’t ruin the franchise.

  3. Geoff says:

I don’t approve of a remake/reboot of the franchise without Harold Ramis, RIP.  But I am in favor of those hilarious comedians picking up the torch!  Fuck yeah Kristin Wiig and Cecily Strong!

  4. Kent says:

This movie is going to be horrible.  Just having Melissa McCarthy in it is enough to ensure that it won’t be worth seeing and that it will have a lot of fat jokes in it.

  5. wate says:

if they really want to sink the ship, they should put allison williams in it.

  6. Maddy says:

I’m in! Love all of those funny girls!

  7. Maddy says:

    I’m in!

  8. Jim Walsh says:

Is it OK to say I don’t enjoy Melissa McCarthy and she is the major reason I’m not particularly enthused about this reboot?

  9. Dayo says:

Anything involving Melissa Mccarthy is a no go for me…She is simply the worst…

  10. It’s the absolute worst idea I’ve heard. Ever.

  11. agirlyman says:

Double Dose of Chobot Thursday’s I love it!
Dan Aykroyd sounding like a delusional, jealous bitch lmao.
    and lastly.
Sorry,  Jess, I’d do just about anything you ask of me except for watching Ben Casey, just can’t do it.

  12. Arielle says:

This could potentially be done right and be quite enjoyable.. I remain open-minded and hopeful.

  13. beensentoe says:

If the the ladies came up against an inter-dimensional baddie that required Ghostbusters from two different continuities to team up and defeat it, I think it would work.
It would be kind of like a Ghostbuster Infinity Crisis maybe…?

  15. Noblenerd says:

They really should just leave it alone! Too many times Hollywood messes with classics and 90% of the time the reboots/sequels/prequels never do well and just ruin the franchise. Examples… Dukes of Hazards movie, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and the list could go on and on.

    • ty says:

Charlie and the chocolate factory wasn’t really a remake of the original movie though   It was a true adaptation of the book,   It was extremely close to what roald Dahl originally wrote

  16. Charlie says:

Yeah I think they mean Leslie Jones and not for nothing but the link mentions Melissa McCarthy twice.

  17. Amy says:

    Don’t you mean Leslie Jones?

  18. Brian says:

Ghostbusters without Harold Ramis is like Led Zeppelin without John Bonham. I (kindly) vote “no”.

  19. Johnny says:

Honestly I don’t think they need to time travel but they do need to have some connection to the original busters. I think without the connection, at least a hand off in a sort, it won’t really make much sense.

    • Mirk says:

exact, if the reboot is not connected in any way with the original GB, bringing together the two groups is a script impossible

      • Mirk says:

IDW publishing showed us new members, especially women, in continuity with the original GB, Paul Feig and Dan Aykroyd should take example, even if there is no more Mr. Ramis
