GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot Finds Its Bad Guy In Neil Casey

Paul Feig’s female-led Ghostbusters reboot has found its villain — or at least one of them — in the form of actor and writer Neil Casey. Right now, all we know is that Casey’s character will go by the name of Rowan, but other than that, we don’t know any real details about his character. Though you may not recognize Casey by name, he has considerable credits under his belt. In addition to writing for Saturday Night Live, Inside Amy Schumer, and Kroll Show, Casey has appeared on Veep, Broad City, The League, and The Kroll Show, and Paul Feig’s Yahoo original series, Outer Space. Casey joins an already stellar cast including Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth.

So why do I say Neil Casey is just one of the villains? If this new movie follows the tradition of the original two Ghostbusters films, then there will be two bad guys; so far, there has traditionally been a human antagonist as well as a supernatural one. The first Ghostbusters of course had William Atherton as EPA agent Walter Peck (or “Dickless”, as Peter Venkman refers to him) and Gozer the Gozerian, while the second movie had Peter MacNicol as Dr. Janosz Poha (arguably the best thing about that particular movie) and Wilhelm von Homburg as Vigo the Carpathian.

Of course, the new movie could be throwing that whole playbook away, but I have a feeling they’re going to be faithful to it. After all, we’ve got four leads as the Ghostbusters and a receptionist (from Asgard), so it looks like they’re looking to the original film at least when it comes to the basic structure of the movie. We’ll know for sure on July 22nd, 2016 when Ghostbusters finally hits theaters.
