For every male character, there is a female version of that character. For every female character, there is a male version of that character. Thus states Rule 63. When cosplayers portray characters of the other sex the costumes are labeled Rule 63, gender bent, crossplay, or gender swapped. I’m probably forgetting a couple.
Whatever the title, this type of cosplay often leads to interesting designs since the costumes have to be built to fit a different gender. Cosplayers make replicas of costumes with small adjustments like the Ant Man cosplay in the below gallery, go with original interpretations as seen in the Power Girl costume below, or fall somewhere in between. We’ve rounded up a little of everything in our gallery of gender swapped comic book characters.
