New Funko GARGOYLES Line Can Be Warriors by Night or Day

Next year will be the 25th anniversary of one of the finest and most original action-adventure series ever to grace television animation: Gargoyles. The Disney Afternoon’s answer to Fox’s smash hit Batman: The Animated Series, Gargoyles mixed dark Gothic melodrama, Shakespearean imagery, a little bit of horror, and modern, urban science fiction to a series full of excitement and romance; not something 10-year-old me was particularly ready for, but something I obsessed over thereafter. Though it ran for just three seasons and a total of 78 episodes (far fewer than Batman), its lasting cult following is enough to warrant an entire line of Pop! vinyl figures from Funko.

The first of these to be announced was a Specialty Series figure of Hudson, the grizzled old warrior Gargoyle who fought the most like a human, employing a sword and wearing full armor. Lowkey, Hudson was always my favorite character, and if that ended up being all we’d get from Gargoyles, I’d have been perfectly okay with it. But not so!

Funko has just announced a full line of Gargoyles figures and keychain Pops! coming this July. The first batch includes leader Goliath; the three young brothers who took to modern Manhattan in decidedly different ways, Brooklyn, Broadway, and Lexington; the devious and deadly Demona; and Bronx, the one that doesn’t have wings but is a dog.

In addition, you can get store-specific variants, including Target-exclusive stone Goliath, Hot Topic-exclusive stone Demona, and FYE-exclusive 2 pack of stone Hudson and stone Bronx. You can also get keychain versions of Goliath, Demona, and stone Demona. So, a fair amount of choice for a series that hasn’t been on in over 20 years. But that’s really the fun of Funko; as soon as you think “nah, I’m done collecting Funko,” they go and make something like this to make nostalgia bugs go insane.

What Funko line would you go all-in on if they announced it tomorrow? Let us know in comments.
