Gaming Daily: STAR WARS 1313 Might Still Happen

At the moment of writing, most of the Nerdist gang is attending the Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens premiere. Hopefully you were able to keep up with all of our coverage, including the live periscope feed our own Malik Forté and Kyle Hill hosted. With the film set to debut this Friday–well technically Thursday with the way premieres go these days–nerds everywhere are probably focused on a galaxy far, far away, which means they’ve probably missed some of the day’s gaming news. Luckily, we’re here, as always, with our daily roundup. In today’s Gaming Daily, Star Wars 1313 may still happen, Stan Lee and more team up for Twin Galaxies‘ #RighttoGame campaign, new Yakuza: Kiwami footage emerged, and Nintendo reveals the first ever fire/water Pokémon.

Star Wars 1313 might still happen.

Speaking of Star Wars, remember Star Wars 1313? When the above trailer premiered, we were pumped because it looked like we would finally be getting a grittier game based on the famed franchise. The icing on the cake was that it was going to explore the bounty hunter Boba Fett’s past. If any of this rings a bell to you, you’re probably also aware that the game was cancelled a while back.

So you can imagine our surprise when we saw the news floating around today that the game may not be dead after all. In an interview with SlashFilm, Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy said the following about the title:

“We don’t want to throw any of that stuff away. It’s gold. And it’s something that we’re spending a lot of time looking at, pouring through, discussing, and we may well develop things further. We definitely want to.”

Though nothing was confirmed, we can’t help but be excited.

Stan Lee, Jamie Lee Curtis, Rick Fox, Randy Jackson and more team up with Twin Galaxies

Well, this is pretty cool. Several stars including Stan Lee, Jamie Lee Curtis, Rick Fox and more have teamed up with the eSports company Twin Galaxies to help launch a new initiative called #RightToGame. Basically, the celebrities involved will be auctioning off items to raise money to launch new outlet social media platform tailored specifically for gamers. This means a new website, a mobile app, and video game player-centered programs and competitions broadcasted through the Twin Galaxies Live network. New 8 minute Yakuza: Kiwami trailer hit the web.

Yakuza has been on our tongues a lot lately, with the PS3 release of Yakuza 5 this week, the new Yakuza 6 trailer, and the announcement that Yakuza Zero would be coming west. As fans of the franchise, we can’t complain, but, just in case you haven’t had your fill, the folks behind the franchise released an 8 minute story trailer for Yakuza: Kiwami–which is the PS4/PS3 remake of the first game. Check it out in the video above.

Though it doesn’t show anything new in terms of story (because duh, this is a re-release), it sets up the game quite nicely for folks who aren’t familiar with the game. Aside from the story however, there are several changes that have been made to the game, including the visuals, which have been completely re-done, as well as new mechanics, and mini games that have been incorporated.

I for one, can’t wait to get my hands on this.

Nintendo announces first ever Fire/Water type Pokémon

The Pokémon series has certainly seen some change throughout the past few years with the release of Pokémon X/Y, and the introduction of the Fairy Type, but nothing compares to this next bit of news. Nintendo took to the web today to unveil Volcanion, the first ever Fire/Water type Pokémon. Check him out in the trailer above.

While the odd typing is exciting, the news doesn’t necessarily come as the biggest surprise because back in 2013, Volcanion was one of the three Pokemon (including the already announced Hoopa) found in Pokemon X/Y‘s code.
