Gaming Daily: PS2 Emulation is Possible on the PS4

With the holiday season in full swing, I’m sure things have been pretty busy on your end. Since keeping up with gaming news has probably been pretty difficult as of late, we’re here to keep you informed and up to date about what’s been going on in the wonderful world of gaming. In today’s Gaming Daily, it looks like PS2 emulation on the PS4 is possible, our own Kyle Hill explained exactly how many Fallout Nuka Cola’s you’d be able to drink without dying on the latest episode of Because Science, Fallout 4 patches will be coming to PC ahead of console, iam8bit announces new Guild Wars 2 gear, and a new Just Cause 3 trailer hit the web.

PS2 Emulation PS4 Star Wars

PS2 Emulation basically confirmed for the PS4.

Well this is certainly interesting. After Sony revealed that the Darth Vader PS4 bundle (which came with a copy of Star Wars: Battlefront) would also be coming with a voucher for four Star Wars classics, a lot of people wondered whether the additional games would be remasters or emulated. With the bundle finally out in the wild, Eurogamer’s Richard Leadbetter took to the YouTube channel DigitalFoundry to confirm that the latter was actually the case. Check out the video at the top of the page to learn more.

According to the report, the site tested out Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, and concluded that they are all running on a PS2 emulator. It’s curious that Sony slipped this sort of thing onto the system without a big announcement, but nonetheless, we’re excited that it happened.

With this bit of news in mind, the recent PEGI leak in which Sony rated classics like Ape Escape 2, Twisted: Metal Black, and Dark Chronicle 2 makes a bit more sense. Hopefully, this means that we’ll be seeing those games hit the PS4 in the near future.

Fallout 4 patches to be released on PC, before PS4 and Xbox One.

Speaking of Fallout 4, if you’ve played the game, you’re probably aware that it’s riddled with glitches. While some are hilarious, others are frustrating enough to make you want to scream. Despite having a stellar release, Bethesda admits that the game could definitely see some improvements, and like most developers, plans to release patches.

As for how they’ll be rolling out the fixes, Bethesda revealed in a recent blog post:

“Our process for updating the game will include releasing a beta patch on Steam, followed by full release on PC, then release on the consoles. This process has worked well for us in the past and allows us to get more fixes out faster. Expect to see more updates, that are smaller and more frequent, than a few big ones. This allows us to make sure each fix is working right, as any change can have unintentional side effects in a game this huge. We expect the first beta patch to be up next week.”

So there you have it. While they don’t give a particular release window, we now know that the fixes will be coming to PC ahead of consoles, which isn’t a surprise, considering the company’s history.

New Just Cause 3 trailer hits the web.

With Avalanche’s Just Cause 3 set to release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on December 1st,  we’ve been understandably hyped for the game. Square Enix released a brand new CG trailer featuring Kasabian’s track “Fire,” that’s got us pretty excited. Check it out above.

With several of it’s competitors taking the live-action trailer route, it’s a bit odd to see the developer taking the CG route. But, nonetheless, the video is pretty cool. What’s even cooler is the fact that it was the folks at Visual Works are the ones who produced it. For those unfamiliar with the name,  Visual Works is a subsidiary of Square Enix, who’ve worked on several of Final Fantasy’s CG movies.
