Gaming Daily: Microsoft Parodies Sony’s Game Share Video

Wow, what an absolutely incredible week it’s been in the gaming world. Fallout 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider both launched this Tuesday. Plus, we had a brilliant Nintendo Direct yesterday with a few surprises, including the announcement that the original Pokémon games will be available on the 3DS Virtual Console early next year–you guys have no idea how mental I went when this was revealed. It has most certainly been a good one. Now on to today’s news. In today’s Gaming Daily: Microsoft parodies Sony‘s infamous game share video, get a look at all the heroes and villains from Star Wars: Battlefront, download Xenoblade Chronicles X data packs, a System Shock remake is in the works, and a physical version of Life is Strange is on its way.

Microsoft parodies Sony’s game share video.

It was only 2 years ago that Sony dropped their game share video which took a jab at Microsoft’s anti-consumer approach to used games. If you don’t recall, Microsoft’s plan for used games was convoluted, only allow players to trade-in games at select retailers, and you could only share your purchased disc with one other person. It was dumb, and annoying.

But, now that Microsoft has backwards compatibility, and Sony doesn’t, the mega-company returned the favor with a parody of the game sharing video. Peep the clip from XboxUK above.

You might be wondering to yourself why it didn’t feel as powerful as the one it’s mocking. Well, backward compatibility is great–I don’t think anyone is complaining that they are getting it for free–but it’s never been a hot button issue. Maybe it would have been a much bigger deal when the consoles originally launched.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I know this is the best thing since sliced bread to some, but we are now at a point where both the PS4 and Xbox One have robust game libraries. This feature is a luxury more so than a necessity.

Still, I’ll give Microsoft credit for having some fun. It seems like a friendly jab at the competition. Game on!

Get a glimpse of all 6 heroes in Star Wars: Battlefront.

Many Xbox One owners are already playing Star Wars: Battlefront thanks to EA Access, but those that won’t get to play early shouldn’t fret. Here’s a video of all of the special characters you’ll be able to control in the game. YouTube channel, Arekkz Gaming, has posted the 5-minute clip that demonstrates the unique difference between all of the heroes and villains. I for one am looking forward to wielding Darth Vader’s red lightsaber. Peep the video above.

Download Xenoblade Chronicles X data packs today.

I think that many will agree that yesterday’s Nintendo Direct was pretty fantastic, despite the dull moments in the middle of the stream. There was one announcement that wasn’t very exciting but, nonetheless, very important–especially for those that will be playing Xenoblade Chronicles X in the near future. Those gamers that will be getting the physical version of the game can now download 4 data packs that will improve the games loading performance.

It’s recommended that you download all of the packs for a smoother experience, just keep in mind that each pack is around the 2 GB size. You’ll actually need a total of 15 GB of free space. Gamers who chose to go digital don’t need to worry about this, since the packs will be included in the game download. As annoying as it may be, you should definitely get these if you have the hard drive space to spare.

System-Shock-11122015

A System Shock remake is in the works.

System Shock fans, rejoice! A remake of the classic horror first-person shooter is in the works. Night Dive Studios is taking up the task of bringing this classic back, but it won’t be a simple remaster. CEO of the developing team, Stephen Kick has revealed in an interview with Fast Company that the game will be more of a reimagining. It’s also going to be on consoles, so everyone should be able to experience this gem. The team is also considering making another installment for the series, but nothing tangible is set in stone as of now.

Life-is-strange-limited-edition-11132015

Physical version of Life is Strange will become available in January.

Life is Strange has become a surprise hit in a year filled with so many great games. Players have fallen in love with the Telltale-style story-telling of this time-traveling teen drama. I have good news for those that don’t like to go all digital–a physical version of the the season will launch on January 22, for the PS4 and Xbox One. There will also be a limited edition version that will include the following extras: a 32-page art book, the soundtrack, and best of all, the director’s commentary.

The standard edition will set you back $29.99, while the limited edition version will go for $39.99. The entry price is a bit steep, but the extra content in the pricier version will be great for those that loved the game. I must admit, I haven’t played through the whole 5-episode season yet, but the first episode was intriguing enough to make me want to finish the next 4 episodes– I hear it only gets better.
