Metal Gear Online is offering insurance?

Within today’s excitement for the release of Metal Gear Online, is possibly one of the most WTF microtransactions to ever exist. Thanks to the 960mb update that Konami applied to Metal Gear Solid V this morning, players can now purchase–with real money–“FOB insurance service”. F***ing insurance. By copping said insurance, you’ll be compensated for any items or staff lost during confrontations with enemies over a period of time.

As expected, and rightfully so, gamers are up in arms about this strange microtransaction. One of the more appealing features boasted about leading up to Metal Gear Online was the high stakes matches that forced players to wager losing assets from their Forward Operating Bases. Adding these microtransactions diminishes the competitive soul of Metal Gear Online, lowering the stakes of each round played using this “FOB insurance” by a substantial amount. At least the players who do succeed in acquiring items and staff from opposing players aren’t punished, as they’ll still be rewarded for when succeeding against opponents. Yet and still, fingers crossed for Konami coming to their senses and nixing this feature sooner rather than later.

Tekken7

Tekken 7 may be headed to US consoles next year… Duh

Well what do you know? There’s more Tekken 7 speculation that’s 100% uninformative. It seems like the more we hear about this game, the less we know about what’s to come for it. The pointless rumor mill really started to churn during Madrid Games Week, when Bandai Namco Marketing Manager, David Fraile, told the Spanish website known as Koi Nya that the game would be hitting consoles in the west sometime next year. If you speak Spanish, skip forward to 2:48 for Fraile’s official statement:

Yeah, I’m totally taking this with a grain of salt. Tekken making its way to consoles in the west is inevitable, but will it appear in arcades out here first? It’s been in Japanese arcades since March, so there are theories that would suggest so. The viability of the arcade scene here in the US is laughable in comparison to Japan, however, so I wouldn’t hold my breath for seeing any Tekken 7 cabinets in the states. Let’s just hope that regardless, we at least get Pokken Tournament next year.

Covenant vehicles get pimped out in Halo 5

343 has decided to stir the hype pot by showing off the Covenant vehicles to be featured in Halo 5: Guardians. It’s almost like they took these bad boys to West Coast customs, with rides like the iconic Ghost appearing nearly unnoticeable. On top of a slew of aesthetic changes, 343 also upgraded performance of the vehicles as well. Check out screenshots and get more information on these in our full write up (viewable below).
