Gaming Daily: GEARS OF WAR 4 to Release Earlier Than Expected

As far as Mondays go, this was a rather gloomy one. We lost the legendary David Bowie last night, and it’s been rough. When Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain released a few months ago, hearing his track “The Man Who Sold the World”–which played during the intro sequence of the game–led to me revisiting a lot of his past work. He inspired so many people, including Hideo Kojima, who referenced him several times in the MGS series. Though I’d love to sit and list all the ways he inspired people, it’s time to get to today’s gaming news. In today’s Gaming Daily, Gears of War 4 might release earlier, HTC Vive pre-orders to go live in February, Neil Druckmann hints at Uncharted 4’s ending, and Games Done Quick raises 1.2 million for cancer research.

Gears of War 4 release date moved to Fall of 2016

Well, that was unexpected. With games getting delayed left and right, it came as a pleasant surprise when news hit that we’d be getting Gears of War 4 earlier than expected. While it isn’t a huge leap, Microsoft representatives have confirmed that the game will be launching in Fall 2016, as opposed to Winter 2016.

The new release window was revealed during a recent livestream. With the beta already slated for spring, it looks like we’ll be getting our hands on the game pretty soon. I for one am excited, especially since I’ve been trekking through Gears of War Ultimate Edition the past few weeks.

Speaking of the Ultimate Edition, they also revealed during the stream that 45% of players who picked it up were new to the game. Though there are several factors involved, that’s a pretty impressive figure. Let’s hope it means good things for the series.

The Oculus Rift may have been the talk of the town last week, but today was dedicated to the HTC Vive. If you’ve been wondering when you’ll be able to pre-order it, I have some good news: the folks at HTC revealed that they’ll be going live on February 29th. uncharted 4

Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann hints at Uncharted 4’s ending.

We already knew Uncharted 4 was going to be Nathan Drake’s last hurrah, but according to a couple of hints that developer Naughty Dog has been dropping lately, it sounds like the ending doesn’t bode well for our favorite adventurer. If the trailer from a couple of weeks ago wasn’t a big enough indication of his fate, the recent interview Neil Druckmann did with The Sun sure is.

He explained, “We’ve been with this character for so long. He’s at the height of his popularity, so it’s not a good business decision. But I feel like the best way to honor him is to go out on top, to finish his story. Whether that’s it for Uncharted? I don’t know. At the end of the day Sony owns Uncharted and they can do whatever they want.”

Okay, that sounds pretty standard. But then, he said “But with the end of this story, it will be really hard to do a sequel with Nathan Drake.”

Whoa. That’s heavy.

His statement could mean a variety of things, but we’re assuming he’s referencing the character’s death. Though he admits that a prequel of sorts, or even another game with a different character could happen, he ended the interview with “But this is the end for Nathan Drake.”
