Gaming Daily: Bethesda Drops Short DOOM Teaser

Happy Monday everyone! Aside from the first look at Warcraft’s Orgrim Doomhammer, we’ve had a bit of a slow news day again, but there were still a couple of things we’d like to bring to your attention to keep you informed, and most importantly entertained until tomorrow. In today’s Gaming Daily, Bethesda has released a new teaser for their upcoming DOOM title, the launch trailer for Life is Strange: Episode 3 is here ahead of tomorrow’s launch, and Bloodborne sales surprised Sony.

DOOM Teaser 05182015

Three-second DOOM teaser hits the web.

It’s been a long time coming, but we finally got our first tiny peek at the DOOM title ID Software’s been working on for quite some time. The teaser, which you can view at the top of the page, provides us with our first look at what Bethesda is bringing to the table Sunday June, 14 at 7 pm PST when they take the stage for their first ever E3 press conference. Though they revealed the title to Quake Con attendees last year, none of the footage shown was made public. The game is set to be officially unveiled at their conference this year.

While we’ve heard inklings of the title since 2008 back when the game was referred to as Doom 4, Bethesda released the first teaser trailer for the title last June. They also revealed last February that those who pre-ordered Wolfenstein: The New Order on any console would be receiving access to the Beta once it was available. The beta isn’t available yet, but we’re assuming we’ll be hearing more about that come June 14.

The Life is Strange: Episode 3 launch trailer is here.

Life is Strange: Episode 3 is out tomorrow and this writer in particular couldn’t be more excited. The episode is titled Chaos Theory and picks up in the aftermath of last season’s jaw-dropping conclusion. Despite some of the game’s pitfalls like awkward dialogue, and a couple of uninspired puzzles, the topics tackled in the first two episodes, the excellent soundtrack and the way Max’s time bending powers compliment the mysterious plot are intriguing enough to keep people coming back for more.

With the next installment releasing tomorrow, the folks behind Life is Strange have released the official launch trailer and boy, does it look as mysterious as ever. With all the strange events happening around Blackwell Academy, Max and Chloe (who knows about Max’s newfound powers), are trying to get to the bottom of Rachel Amber’s disappearance. This time around, their sleuthing brings them to Blackwell Academy in the dead of night. It looks like they’ll be breaking into the principal’s office to find out what he knows.

Max will also be adding some new powers to her arsenal of time travel abilities. I for one am interested to see how my particular ending affects the next episode, especially since it was drastically different from the other possible conclusion. As of right now, the character I’m most looking forward to checking out is Victoria. Despite her tough girl exterior, we saw her in a vulnerable moment at the end of Out of Time. I’m guessing maybe she feels bad about her part in last episode’s big event, but I suppose we’ll just have to wait and find out.

Bloodborne

Sony surprised by Bloodborne sales.

It’s safe to say that Bloodborne–which I called a masterpiece in my full review of the title–was a huge hit for the PlayStation 4. With the brilliant minds of From Software and Sony behind the title, it isn’t surprising that the title was grade-A material. It is, however, a pleasant surprise for a lot of people, including Sony, that the game sold a lot better than originally projected.

“It did surprise us,” Sony UK managing director Fergal Gara told MCV. “We had expectations to do well. We looked at the Souls series as a frame of reference, and we thought we could do better than that. We did—and then some. Relative to some of our sister territories, we were being quite ambitious, but even that proved to be conservative.”

Gara didn’t reveal sales figures along with his comment, but Sony revealed last month that it sold more than one million copies. Microsoft even congratulated the company on doing so well with the new IP. In addition to the game being fantastic, I think some of the game’s success has to do with timing.  Gara pointed out that the fact that the game came out at such a slow time must have helped at least a little with the title’s sales.
