GAME OF THRONES’ Theme Gets A Surprisingly Great Bluegrass Cover

Dragons, incest, a throne made of swords, a 700 foot tall ice wall, an army of the dead, giants, an endless supply of wine, magic, Hodor–if all of that doesn’t scream bluegrass then I don’t know what does, and now Game of Thrones‘ famous opening credit music has its own fiddle-filled cover.

Flatt Lonesome played an exclusive cover of the theme song from HBO‘s mega hit show in Nashville for SiriusXM’s Bluegrass Junction station. It might sound like a weird style for the song (the band agrees, they said on Facebook that they thought SiriusXM was joking at first), but this sounds great. It has a sadness to it that fits the brutal reality that the show, in spite of all its fantasy elements, is rooted in.

Lonesome-Flatts
This is really good…as long as you ignore the fact that it will absolutely remind you of the musicians at The Twins who played the “Rains of Castamere” right before the horrors of the Red Wedding.

You can purchase the song here and ensure that you are the coolest/nerdiest person at your next hoedown.

As someone who loves this song so much he has it as his ringtone (it’s true) I can honestly say this is one of the better covers I’ve hear. Now I’d like to hear them do a bluegrass version of “The Bear and the Maiden Fair.”

What are you favorite Game of Thrones‘ covers? Yeehaw we want to hear from you in our comments section below.
