GAME OF THRONES’ Jaqen H’ghar Gets the KIMMY SCHMIDT Musical Treatment

Titus Andromedon (Tituss Burgess) was hands-down one of the best parts of Tina Fey and Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and his self-produced single “Peeno Noir” was the jewel in his crown. The brilliant gang over at Practical Folks decided to parody that epic song and mix in Braavos’ most prolific Faceless Man to bring us “Jaqen H’Ghar.” (You have to sing it in tune in your head to get the full effect, because spelling it out as JAAAAQUENN H’GHAAARR isn’t typographically economical.) With the exception of Sigur Ros’s appearance as Joffrey and Margaery’s wedding band, “Jaqen H’ghar” is my favorite Game of Thrones-inspired music crossover. I mean, that wistful version of “The Rains of Castamere” was good, but this is quality material right here.

The original “Peeno Noir” (included below) was basically a long list of largely unrelated but rhymed words ending in the “ar” syllable, and that scheme works just as well in Westeros and Essos as it did for Titus. Throwing in some of Game of Thrones most memorable scenarios, Practical Folks have hilariously included “Cersei’s bar”, “Tormund says ‘Har'”, and “Master was charred” among a pretty fair roundup of Arya’s storyline highlights. I have a sneaking suspicion I’ll be singing “sweep the fl’r” on a loop during cleaning sessions.

Game of Thrones wraps its fifth season with the forthcoming finale on Sunday. While Jaqen has been a kind of a dick lately, it’s looking very likely that he’ll be inducting Arya into the Faceless Men soon (I hope) and this song is making him more palatable. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will be returning for its second season next Spring on Netflix.

Sound off below with your favorite “Peeno Noir” and “Jaqen H’ghar” moments!
