GAME OF THRONES Has Fewer Episodes, Taking As Much Time to Film and More TV News

Though yesterday was the first weekday of 2017, many of you are just returning to work for the first time since before Christmas. I can help move your day along a little faster with a brand new TV-Cap. Today’s round-up of television news includes word about the filming time for season seven of Game of Thrones, a look at the rebels of Star Wars Rebels saving Rogue One’s Saw Gerrera, and more.

Taking the Time. Game of Thrones’ seventh season will be a shorter season as the HBO series winds down. They’re only filming seven episodes, but actor Iain Glen (Ser Jorah Mormont) told RadioTimes production isn’t necessarily going faster. He said, “They are taking the length of time it takes to shoot ten episodes to shoot just seven this year and six next year. There are fifteen more hours left in Thrones as we understand it, but that may change, but that’s as far as we know.” In other words, don’t expect the seasons to arrive any sooner just because they’re shorter. Read all of Glen’s comments–including speculation about whether Mormont will be around for season eight–at RadioTimes.

Rescue for Saw. Saw Gerrera’s story will expand when Star Wars Rebels returns. He’s appearing in a two-part arc called “Ghosts of Geonosis.” We’ve seen a clip from part one already, but now, Disney XD’s released a new trailer that cuts together footage showing the rebels rescuing Saw with shots from Rogue One. Not So Fast. Okay, even though Will & Grace actor Leslie Jordan said the comedy’s return was a done deal, that’s apparently not the case. Actress Debra Messing said, “Sadly Leslie was wrong.” She said nothing has happened beyond talks just yet. Hmm. It seems like a weird thing for Jordan to get confused about. [Entertainment Weekly]

Easter egg-ness. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return from its midseason break on January 10. ABC and Marvel have released a promo poster featuring Agent May front and center, and it includes an Easter egg/hidden message. That “135” and “Strange Tales” tagline on the poster is a reference to Strange Tales #135–it was the first comic to feature a LMD, a life model decoy. And hey, May’s been cloned so… [Comic Book Movie, Image: ABC]

Demogorgon Action. Stranger Things brought the Demogorgon to all-too-real life. That’s one scary monster, in my opinion. Effects house Spectral Motion contributed work on the creature, and they shared the above video showing off animatronics for the head. To make it extra exciting, pretend it’s trying to eat your face. See more behind the scenes pictures of the monster at Spectral Motion’s Facebook page. [Slashfilm]

Dire Situations. A Series of Unfortunate Events isn’t about blue skies and happy endings. Netflix keeps releasing trailers and promos featuring author Lemony Snicket warning you to not watch so you can avoid tragedy. But, now that I’ve finally read the first three books in the series, how can I resist? Head to the gallery to see a whole gaggle of photos from the upcoming series. [CBR, Images: Netflix]

Are you planning to watch A Series of Unfortunate Events when it premieres on January 13? Tell me in the comments.
