Fall television is kicking off this week with the return of old favorites and the debut of new shows, but before we get there, we had the 2016 Emmy Awards. They aired on Sunday, and today’s TV-Cap will get you to a list of winners—Game of Thrones‘ wins put them into record-breaking territory—and you’ll also find our review of Westworld, some new Dirk Gently promos, and more.
Cleaning Up. Game of Thrones now has the most Emmy awards for any scripted series with a total of 38 wins. (The previous record-holder was Frasier.) The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards saw Game of Thrones win for directing and writing and saw Tatiana Maslany finally score for her work in Orphan Black (she took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series). Define Pretty Good. The adaptation of Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is going to connect all sorts of dots. It stars Samuel Barnett as Dirk and Elijah Wood as his assistant Todd. The first promo above is an introduction of sorts that sets up the tone of the show perfectly. Human Flaws. HBO’s Westworld is coming our way on October 2, and trailers have teased a bizarre and interesting story that will examine how far humanity is willing to go. Does the pilot stack up to the hype? Jump over to this post on Nerdist to find out why Alicia gave it five out of five burritos.
Starring Role. Mary Elizabeth Winstead has landed a starring role in season three of Fargo. She’ll be playing Nikki Swango, “a crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge playing.” [Slashfilm]
Who’s Next? The Walking Dead basically tortured fans with its season six cliffhanger. Even people that don’t watch the show know Negan killed somebody. MADtv decided to parody that event in a new sketch, and it’s hilarious because it’s so true. [Nerdist]

Scripts in 140. Keith Saltojanes has taken a unique approach to getting his spec for an animated Blue Brothers script in front of eyes by throwing it on Twitter. He’s trying to make a splash to be considered for the animated series that could be in the works, and hey, I give him points for creativity—both for the distribution method and the actual script. Especially because he acted out all parts of the script with different Twitter accounts. I can’t imagine the amount of time involved. All the Intros. I have a hard time believing South Park has been on the air for 20 years–not because of the content but because it makes me feel ancient. The gang hasn’t changed physically in that time, but the title sequence has gone through alterations big and small. The above video goes through them all in three minutes. [Nerdist]
