GAME OF THRONES Animated Video Revisits the Major Death Scenes

WARNING: This video contains lots of spoilers for Seasons 1-4 of Game of Thrones.

Tonight, the fifth season of Game of Thrones will come to an end and fans will have to wait until next April to see it return to HBO.

Before winter comes and the 42-week Game of Thrones drought begins, superfan Aristarchos Papadaniel has created an animated tribute to the major death scenes on the series while performing a cover of The Rains of Castamere, the infamous cautionary song of the Lannisters.

Within this video, the bloody ends of Ned Stark, Robb Stark, Catelyn Stark, Oberyn Martell, Shae, Tywin Lannister, and even King Joffrey himself are revisited through rotoscope animation. Papadaniel changes a few of the lyrics of the song and he even seems to roar like a lion. He also appears to have chosen the scenes to match up closely with the imagery described in the song.

Rotoscoping is an animation technique in which live action images are traced by an artist frame-by-frame and brought back together as an animated sequence. Ralph Bakshi famously used rotoscoping for his animated adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. Although Papadaniel’s animation technique appears to be much cruder than Bakshi’s.

Game of Thrones fans, what did you think about Papadaniel’s animated tribute to the deaths from the show? Did Papadaniel’s version of the lyrics find favor in your ears? Which Game of Thrones death is the most memorable in the history of the series? Send the Lannisters your regards and share your thoughts in the comment section below!
