Galactus Returns in the First Look at Marvel’s THE ULTIMATES # 1

After Secret Wars, the Ultimate Universe is gone! And The Ultimates as we knew them are no more. But there’s an All-New, All-Different Marvel Universe now, and The Ultimates are back in a new series with an entirely new team.

While the original Ultimates were clearly an analog for the founding Avengers, the new Ultimates team features members from different Avengers teams. Black Panther and Captain Marvel from the main team, Spectrum and Blue Marvel from Mighty Avengers, and Ms. America Chavez from the most recent incarnation of the Young Avengers.

But these Ultimates aren’t Avengers anymore. As reenvisioned by writer Al Ewing and artist Kenneth Rocafort, The Ultimates are Earth’s first line of defense against the threats that are too vast for any other heroes to handle. They’re up for anything in the Marvel omniverse, which is good because their first assignment is to take out Galactus once and for all.

After the comic book Age of Ultron storyline, Galactus was sent to the Ultimate Universe where he merged with his counterpart Gah Lak Tus and was banished to the Negative Zone. But in the first preview pages from The Ultimates # 1, Galactus is back in the new Marvel U and apparently still joined with the hive mind of Gah Lak Tus as his massive ship reappears in space!

Marvel has shared the first few pages of The Ultimates # 1, which you can see in our gallery below. Rocafort drew the main cover image (posted above), but comic legends Terry Dodson, Mike Deodato, and Skottie Young have contributed variant covers which are also shown in our gallery.

The Ultimates # 1 will be released on Wednesday, November 11.
