FUTURAMA Gets a New Mobile Game With the Original Cast

It’s been nearly four years since Comedy Central canceled Futurama, and unlike the first cancellation, this one appears to be sticking. But there’s good news, everyone! Futurama is making yet another comeback, although not in the way that anyone expected.

Via USA Today, JamCity has revealed plans to release a brand new Futurama mobile game later this year. The original cast and several of the show’s writers are on board for the game, which will feature new material every week. Series co-creator David X. Cohen is also actively involved with the game, which will be called Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow.

While it’s not entirely clear how the gameplay will work on this title, Cohen told USA Today that the game will “re-create the Futurama universe,” and send the crew of the Planet Express on intergalactic delivery missions, where they will inevitably “get to battle some of your favorite Futurama foes.” Of course, what we’d really like to see in the game is the ability to revisit some of the locations from the series, like Robot Santa’s fortress on Neptune or the sector in space where the God Entity awaits. But we’re totally cool with the crew going up against Zapp Brannigan, Earth President Nixon, and the Brain Spawn.

This will also be a freemium mobile game, which means that it will be free to play while also encouraging fans to purchase add-ons that range from $1 to $50. Somehow, we suspect that this is something that the show would have gotten around to mocking if it had continued to the present. That said, we’re eager to see what Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow has to offer us. As fans of the series, we’re in favor of anything that keeps Futurama going.
