FURIOUS 7 Director James Wan is Rebooting the ’80s Classic MACGYVER for CBS

Film and TV reboots certainly seem to be a hot ticket these days, with Star Trek, Fargo, About a Boy, Reality Bites, The Muppets, The X-Filesthe list is endless, literally. But here’s one you may not have heard about yet, and it’s pretty news worthy. The classic ’80s action show MacGyver is next in line for a makeover, from none other than Furious 7 director, James Wan. Yep, this is happening!

According to CBS, the show will be “a reimagining of the television series of the same name, following a 20-something MacGyver as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening.” Is this taking you back to yesteryear, when Richard Dean Anderson gloriously graced your TV screen? As of yet there have been no casting announcements for the reboot, but keep your eyes and ears open for updates.

Apparently, Wan has wanted to do a MacGyver project for a long time, and it was originally envisioned as a feature adaptation. He will executive produce the show, and direct the pilot. It will be written by NCIS: LA‘s Scott Gemmill. The original series ran for a whopping seven seasons and spawned two TV movies, so the new show has big shoes to fill. No pressure, but don’t mess it up, guys.

What are your thoughts on the reboot? Good idea? Not so good? Let us know in the comments below.
