As kids, we thought it was hilarious (at least I did). In Return of the Jedi, the vicious, fanged Rancor was crushed by a door in the act of trying to eat Luke Skywalker, and then this big fat dude comes in and cries about it. Ah, children. We have such little empathy sometimes at the age of 7.

Now, however, thanks to Funko, we can all view the Rancor through similar eyes to Malakili, the aforementioned Rancor keeper with an aversion to shirts. He really is just an adorable pet, with his cute widdle snout and “raaa!” expression. And like all cute pets, he needs food, so this Previews exclusive set comes packed with a Luke and Oola you can toss his way when his li’l tum-tums needs a feedin’. (I was hoping for a Gamorrean guard with removable head, but that might have tainted the cuteness factor just a touch.)

Retailing at $39.99, this set is available to preorder from your local comic book store in January’s Previews catalogue, for a delivery date in May. Late May, specifically, so no “May the 4th” jokes here.

Now that I have reached the age of being a less-than-svelte dude who needs a shirt, let me say this: if I buy the set, and you dare drop a door on my POP Vinyl Rancor when it comes, I will cry like you won’t believe. Time makes empaths of us all.
