This FROZEN/TARZAN Theory Brings All the Feels

Alright Disney, we have to talk. I’m going to need you to stop making me cry about family relationships, okay? I mean, it’s bad enough that you kill off parents in almost every movie, but then you let your directors and writers go out and talk to the people about said heart-crushing things? I can’t handle it anymore! This latest story straight from the mouth of Frozen director Chris Buck and his co-director Jen Lee is one such instance.

During an MTV News interview, Buck recounted the story where he told Lee about the connection that he had built up in his head around the death of the King and Queen of Arendelle aboard the doomed ship. While conspiracy theories about the Disney universe abound (that ship at the bottom of the ocean in The Little Mermaid? People think it’s an Arendelle ship), but this one is a doozy and works doubly so because Buck directed both of the films in question. Here’s how it went:

“When you’re working on a feature, you have a lot of time to think about stuff because it takes four years to make one. I think Jen [Lee] and I were walking to a meeting, and I just start to tell her the entire story. I said, ’Of course Anna and Elsa’s parents didn’t die. Yes, there was a shipwreck, but they were at sea a little bit longer than we think they were because the mother was pregnant, and she gave birth on the boat, to a little boy. They get shipwrecked, and somehow they really washed way far away from the Scandinavian waters, and they end up in the jungle. They end up building a tree house and a leopard kills them, so their baby boy is raised by gorillas. So in my little head, Anna and Elsa’s brother is Tarzan—but on the other side of that island are surfing penguins, to tie in a non-Disney movie, ‘Surf’s Up.’ That’s my fun little world.”

So there you go. Straight from the director’s mouth. This guy is the long lost Prince of Arendelle. He’s got skills. I think he’d be a good prince.

Of course, if you imagine all the trouble he would’ve gotten into with these two like I just did, it all goes down hill.

It’s interesting to think of how very different everything in the Disney Universe would have been if the King and Queen had lived and Tarzan had been Crown Prince Johannes (I don’t know) of Arendelle. Would Elsa have ever let it all go? Who knows! It’s fun to think about though.

While Buck and Lee have recounted this story as their own, personal connections between the universe, there is no word from Disney itself whether any of the most popular fan conspiracy theories are true, so I guess we’re just going to have to continue not knowing for sure.

Which is your favorite fan theory about the Disney connections? Tell us in the comments below!
