Frozen BB-8 Gives a Fiery Thumbs up

What if Star Wars: The Force Awakens took place on Hoth? How would a droid fare on an ice-planet? In the case of Star Wars’ BB-8 I’m guessing not great, as water and electronics don’t mix. Do they sell snow chains for ball droids? Maybe at Tosche Station.

If BB-8 can’t locate a tauntaun for warmth, he’ll most likely freeze, and Portland-based PDX ICE has given us a glimpse into this what-if situation by creating a full-scale frozen BB-8 sculpture.

This happy little astromech is carved to look just like the real thing. Completely made out of ice, BB-8 has his distinguishing symbols and antenna detailed out in solid water form. Even though fire and ice shouldn’t go together, this frozen ball droid even gives a flaming thumbs up just like his on-screen counterpart.

It seems this Star Wars ice sculpture was one of many for a May the Fourth fundraiser at another local Portland haunt, the Bit House Saloon. The establishment threw a Star Wars Day event for the non-profit Dollar For Portland and in addition to the BB-8, PDX ICE also created a green-lit ice Jabba and the coldest smuggler-scoundrel of them all, Han Solo in carbon-ice.

PDX ICE also specializes in premium cocktail ice, and they created fun 2-inch cubes that featured a stormtrooper, TIE fighter, and the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, The Millennium Falcon. These cubes would be perfect floating in an adult blue milk beverage.
