After thirteen Friday the 13th movies (including the 2009 reboot), Jason Voorhees is moving to television! At the Television Critics Association Press Tour this week, The CW President Mark Pedowitz confirmed that Friday the 13th is in development at the network as a one-hour drama.

The Pretender creators Steve Mitchell and Craig Van Sickle are writing the new pilot script for Friday the 13th, which will be based on characters from director Sean Cunningham’s original Friday the 13th movie and its numerous sequels. Cunningham is also an executive producer on the Friday the 13th series with Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment.

There was actually a Friday the 13th: The Series television show in 1987 that ran for three seasons in syndication. But that series shared only its name with its cinematic predecessor and it focused on a quest to reclaim cursed antiques from their unwitting owners. The CW’s Friday the 13th will actually get to use Jason, one of the silver screen’s most famous slashers.

Bill Basso and Jordu Schell previously wrote a Friday the 13th pilot that featured Jason in multiple time periods. However, the new CW incarnation of the series is said to be a more modern take on Crystal Lake’s most famous resident, as new secrets about the Voorhees family come to light and some of Jason’s would-be victims are forced to confront him once again.

The CW is going a little franchise crazy, with potential series based on Archie Comics’ Riverdale, Frequency, Little Women, and The Notebook. To be honest, we’re open to a Friday the 13th crossover with any of these shows! Although it would be pretty amazing if Jason’s return happened in an episode of Supernatural.
