FLOWTUS: Michelle Obama and SNL’s Jay Pharoah Rap About College

Michelle Obama is known for using her position as First Lady of the United States to further a great many causes, including: advocating for women’s rights, promoting arts education, supporting the organic movement, and heading up the Let’s Move! initiative, which aims to deter childhood obesity. But did you know that FLOTUS also spits hot fire?!

To promote the importance of higher learning, the First Lady has teamed up with SNL’s Jay Pharoah in a new music video for College Humor entitled “Go To College”. The video was created with the intent of advancing the First Lady’s “Better Make Room” Campaign, which aims to “inspire every student in America to take charge of their future by completing their education past high school, whether at a training program, community college, or a four-year college or university.” And between Pharoah “making it rain” cash money, the First Lady dancing on the White House lawn, and even a robot (which is, if you look closely, Honda’s ASIMO), the video makes a pretty good case for joining the collegiate crowd.

Although the First Lady only has a single verse in the 1:37 song (introduced by a female vocalist who sets her up with the line “FLOTUS on the track”), she makes the most of it by rapping about coming from the South Side of Chicago, and inspiring kids to pursue their dreams. Shout outs to astronauts, engineers, and Einstein are all in there as well, and there’s even a lyric about astrology! Although astrology is not treated as something you’d go to college for because (spoiler alert!) it’s not a real science.

What did you think of Michelle Obama and Jay Pharoah’s first collab for a good cause? Did it make you wanna ghost ride da degree or look up your horoscope? Let us know in the comments section below!
