The reason Wonder Womanâs home of Themyscira is also known as Paradise Island? Because itâs a land filled with donuts. Granted, thatâs not at all true except in my dreams, but with National Donut Day coming up on June 2 and debut of Princess Diana’s first starring movie, itâs the perfect time to celebrate with a powerful pastry tribute.
These Amazonian snacks are easy to fix yourself. They’re made from biscuit dough and dipped in a sugary glaze to reflect the memorable colors of Wonder Womanâs original suit. Theyâre even decorated with a deliciously whimsical polygraphâa fondant Lasso of Truth. These Wonder Woman donuts are the ideal treats to hand out to all the warrior princesses in your life.
Wonder Woman Donuts
Youâll need:
Star sprinkles
Yellow fondant
Donut ingredients:
1 (16 oz) can biscuit dough
Oil for frying
Red icing ingredients:
1 cup powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
2 Tablespoons whole milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Pinch of salt
Red food gel dye
Blue icing ingredients:
1 cup powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
2 Tablespoons whole milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Pinch of salt
Blue food gel dye
Open the can of dough and separate into 8 biscuits. Use a 3/4-inch round cutter to cut out the center of each donut.
In a large dutch oven, heat 1-1/2-inches of oil to 350 degrees. Gently place the dough into the hot oil. Brown on both sides until cooked through, a few minutes on each side. Let drain on a wire rack.
In a small bowl whisk together the powdered sugar, melted butter, milk, vanilla, salt, and red food gel dye.
Carefully dip the donuts halfway into the glaze. Let the excess drip off, then place on a wire rack to dry.
In another small bowl whisk together the powdered sugar, melted butter, milk, vanilla, salt, and blue food gel dye.
Carefully dip the other half of the donuts into the glaze. Place back on the wire rack and add star sprinkles to the blue side.
Take a small amount of yellow fondant and roll it out into two snakelike shapes. Twist them together, then wrap around the middle of the donut. Repeat for each donut.
Once the glaze is set and the fondant lassos are in place, the donuts are ready to serve.
