First SISTERS Trailer Reunites The Golden Comedy Duo of Tina and Amy

It’s here! The first trailer for Sisters, the film that joins Tina Fey and Amy Poehler together again in glorious comedic harmony, has finally been released unto the masses! The condensed trailer premiered in Tuesday’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon after a round of “True Confessions” with Tina and Amy. In a reversal of their typical dynamic, Tina stars as Jane, the “wild” sister, while Amy plays Maura, who has always played things a little safe and straight-laced. Their parents (Dianne Wiest and James Brolin) have summoned the girls back to their childhood home for an announcement: that home has been sold, and the now-grown ladies need to clean out their rooms! It’s a riotous trip down memory lane for the pair as they reminisce and each process the news in their own way. Jane is indignant that the home won’t be staying in the family, and Maura is wistful at the prospect of losing a place that holds so many memories. Well, save for one unfulfilled memory: Maura never had a chance to have a big blowout party in the house while her parents were away. Jane, of course, persuades her to seize the opportunity before it’s too late. The two decide to throw a huge high-school style rager for their former classmates and friends, even if their 40-ish bodies and minds will regret it in the morning.

Sisters is written by Paula Pell, of Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock fame. If you don’t recognize the name, you will undoubtedly recognize her (albeit very Swanson-fied) face in her guest spot as Ron Swanson’s mother from the “Tammys” episode of Parks and Recreation. As Tammy Zero — or Tammy Prime, as I liked to call her — Paula was brilliant in the “good old-fashioned prairie drink-off” where the women of Pawnee drank for Ron’s fate. Paula has written for Saturday Night Live for years, and is responsible for characters like Marti & Bobbi Culp and skits like Louis C.K. and Kate McKinnon‘s “Drunken Soulmates”, and she wrote the opening for the SNL 40th Anniversary special starring Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon. Pell also guest-starred on 30 Rock as Pete Hornberger’s wife Paula.

In addition to Fey and Poehler, Sisters also stars their SNL contemporary alumna Maya Rudolph as Jane’s high school nemesis Brenda. Bobby Moynihan, Ike Barinholtz, Rachel Dratch, and John Leguizamo also star.

Sisters was produced by Fey, Jay Roach (Dinner For Shmucks, Meet The Parents), and John S. Lyons (Austin Powers in Goldmember), and was executive produced by Jeff Richmond (30 Rock), Poehler, and Bryan Bell. The Universal Pictures film releases in theaters on December 18th, just in time for Christmas!

In a made-for-social media move, Sisters already has a few GIFs ready to go on the official website! We’ve got them here, so feel free to save and share the images with the hashtag #sisters, and while you’re at it share your own great Sisters-inspired blowdryer-Olivia-Newton-John-Xanadu photos!
