The Rebels are coming, the Rebels are coming! Good Morning America premiered the first
trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and boy, what a world. This first look centers on Felicity Jones’ character Jyn Erso and my one word reaction is: Ahhhh. The film, directed by Gareth Edwards, is the first Star Wars spinoff—the first of the movies in the universe to not focus on a Skywalker. No pressure.

Set in the years before A New Hope, the story centers on a group of resistance fighters working to steal the plans for the first Death Star. You know, the plans R2-D2 and C-3PO carried from the Tantive IV to Tatooine. And the first trailer gets right to the nitty gritty.

Jyn Erso seems to have a bit of a criminal track record. It looks like her actions have caught the attention of the Rebellion, and one of the first shots includes Mon Mothma recruiting her. Mon. Frakking. Mothma. I’m sold. Also, other than the man asking questions, the first two characters having a substantial conversation in this trailer are women? Yes, please.

Even in a mere two minutes, Rogue One looks both like a Star Wars movie and also like nothing we’ve seen before. This isn’t about the world of the Jedi. This is about soldiers on the ground—sometimes on the ground running from AT-ATs, apparently!—working to complete this mission. As the last shot teases, it even means going undercover.

We’ll be breaking this trailer down bit by bit in the days to come, but for now, watch it over and over again and enjoy all the awesomeness.
