Earlier this week, we showed you the first official photo of Henry Cavill as Clark Kent in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But while it’s always nice to see a man in a business suit (even if he’s missing his trademark glasses), there’s just no substitute for Clark’s alter ego Superman. Fortunately, Warner Brothers and Zack Snyder have heard our cries for more, and they’ve just released the first official image of Kal-El of Krypton from the Man of Steel sequel via USA Today. You can view the full image below.
The most obvious thing about this pic is how Superman appears even more serious and grimly determined than he was in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. But when you’re going mano-a-mano with the Dark Knight, it’s probably not a good idea to be grinning from ear to ear. USA Today also features a new statement from Snyder on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice:
“Man of Steel was all about Superman finding his place in the world as both a hero and as a man, ultimately saving the city of Metropolis from certain doom. Dawn of Justice continues to immerse him on Earth by working at the Daily Planet as Clark Kent along with Lois Lane (Amy Adams) and Perry White (Laurence Fishburne). But it also takes him to new environments such as Gotham City and introduces larger threats, including Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg).”
The director goes on to explain how Affleck’s Dark Knight will be “a crusty old Batman beating the snot out of guys.” Regarding the two heroes’ relationship, “…suffice it to say there is a ‘v’ in between their names” in the movie title, Snyder says. He explains that having the “v” instead of “vs.” is a way “to keep it from being a straight ‘versus’ movie, even in the most subtle way.”

It would seem he has filled out the suit a bit more. He looks a hell of a lot bigger.

What?
That backdrop looks like GOTHAM from the Tim Burton films.
Superman’s alter ego is Clark, not the other way around. He is Superman first. (Can’t believe I know this.)
In a sense I agree that Clark is the alter ego, it is only really true after he realizes his role in the world (comics and movies). In the most recent incarnation, Man of Steel, Clark, Kal-El, and Superman are nearly the same person/character until the end, when he puts on the glasses and becomes Clark Kent, the news reporter/journalist and that is his disguise. By that point, Kal-El should be considered his born self, and an older true self, while Superman has become his new true self, as a hero.
I think the colors are a little brighter in the costume.
